Q: Is a Nursing Home like a hospital??
A: No, a nursing home is not like a hospital. Many people enter a nursing home following a hospital stay before they are strong enough to go home or because they need continued therapy and nursing care. Nursing Homes try to be more like homes, where people can feel comfortable in more homelike surroundings while receiving the care they require. Visiting hours are less restrictive, activities are offered throughout the day and when possible, residents eat in communal dining rooms.
The Holiday Care Center has that “homey” feeling and welcome you to visit any time. All of our nursing homes are decorated with designer furniture, window treatments and wall coverings. Our activities are varied and meaningful. We are proud of our beautiful dining rooms and our delicious menus.

Q: Why do nursing homes sometimes have an unpleasant odor?
Today’s nursing homes should not have persistent unpleasant odors. With the effective cleaning products available today, a nursing home being properly cleaned should have a pleasant odor.

Q: Is there any privacy in nursing homes?
A: Nursing homes are a balance of providing adequate supervision and promoting much deserved privacy for its residents. Common areas are open while resident’s rooms offer more privacy. At Hovnanian Senior Housing Services we strive to provide exceptional care to our residents in a homelike environment while upholding the family philosophy of accomplishing this through maintaining values of privacy, choice, dignity, individuality and independence.

Q: What is your Nurse staffing ratio?
A: The NJ State Department of Health has baseline standards to regulate staffing in nursing homes. This ratio is dependent upon many variables, including the amount of care that is required for the residents in a particular unit. At Holiday Care Center we meet this requirement at all times and offer a full compliment of additional staff from various disciplines to contribute to improved quality of life for our residents.

Q: What are the results of your latest survey?
A: Every year the NJ State Department of Health sends an inspection team unannounced to all nursing homes for a survey of their operations and facilities. Any deficiencies found in this survey are subject to correction within 90 days. A current state survey book is kept at the front desk of each of our nursing homes for your review.

Q: What types of activities do you offer?
A: All of Hovnanian Senior Housing facilities has a full-time, experienced Certified Activities Director who schedules activities for multiple levels of resident ability that are interesting and creative. We take pride in our activities programs for their innovation and commitment to providing quality, meaningful daily and special activities for our residents. Enhancing the quality of life and well being of our residents is our activity department’s first priority.

Q: Do you offer to take residents on Bus Trips?
A: Yes, monthly bus trips are scheduled for those residents who can safely participate. Examples of trips include going to local restaurants, shows and seasonal attractions.

Q: Are religious services offered?
A: Yes, our facilities offer non-denominational and special services. Please ask to see the calendar of activities when you come to one of our homes for a tour.

Q: What types of therapy do you provide?
A: Hovnanian Senior Housing Services operates its own dynamic in-house therapy departments in each of our nursing homes. Therapy is provided by experienced, licensed Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists. We employ our own therapists so we can better ensure quality care.

Q: Can residents use their own MD while in the Nursing Home?
A: Each of our nursing homes has an approved list of physicians that our residents can choose from. If you would like to have your physician added to the approved list, please speak to the admissions director when you come in for a tour of one of our homes.

Q: Do you offer food preferences at meals?
A: Upon admission, each resident meets with the dietary director to plan an individualized balanced diet taking into consideration each residents likes and dislikes and dietary needs. Our daily meals are set, however, alternate choices are always available.We take immense pride in providing meals that are both delicious and nutritious. Our dietary managers are always available to discuss any dietary concerns.

Q: Are there nurses on duty 24 hours a day?
A: Yes, there are nurses on duty 24 hours a day in all of our Hovnanian Senior Housing Nursing homes.

Q: Will my insurance pay for services?
A: How much a 3rd party payor will contribute towards skilled nursing care depends on the individual policy coverage guidelines. One of our admissions directors would be happy to sit down with you to help you assess your particular situation.

Q: What if my loved one has Alzheimer's disease, or other memory loss afflictions?
A: Holiday Care Center specializes in meeting the needs of residents suffering from dementia and memory loss. Staff are specially trained , and we have a dedicated, secure wing within the building that delivers unique programs designed to ensure each resident gets the care, services and attention they need.

Q: Do all nursing homes have specialized wings & programs for Alzheimer's disease, or other memory loss afflictions?
A: No. Holiday Care Center recognized the unmet need in the community for specialized Alzheimer's and memory loss services, and did something about it. We are very proud of our dedicated, secure 60 bed wing, which stands apart from other nursing homes in the area. Exactly one-third of our beds at Holiday Care Center cater to the needs of those with Alzheimer's, memory loss, and other dementias.
