At a time when the Nation’s senior healthcare is the topic of major discussion, Ocean County residents can rest comfortably knowing that right in their own backyard, senior caregiving has never been better. For the fourth year in a row, Holiday Care Center in Toms River has been singled out for excellence in nursing by the NJ Association of Nursing Administration. NJDONA named Abosede (Cecilia) Ojo BSN RN, The Assistant Director of Nursing of the Year for 2014. Ms. Ojo adds her name to the list of Holiday Care Center’s previous honorees including JoAnn Curry, LPN of the Year 2011, Evelina Andujar, Certified Nursing Assistant of the year 2012, and Jonas Bamba, BSN RN Supervisor of the year for 2013.

Since its opening in 1987, Holiday Care Center has strived for excellence, serving Ocean County’s senior community with the highest quality senior care, while establishing new standards for wellness, including 24/7 care for the chronically ill, as well as those in need of convalescent care, and rehabilitative services such as physical therapy, speech therapy and post-operative treatment and therapy.

Assistant Director of Nursing Cecilia Ojo began her tenure at this 180-bed facility, on October 31, 2007, which also happens to be her birthday. According to Holiday’s longtime Administrator, Donna Schwartzman, it was Holiday Care Center’s staff and residents who received the best gift of all; the addition of another supremely talented and experienced caregiver with a passion for making a difference. “Cecilia was new to long-term care and filled the position of part-time night shift supervisor. She continued working full-time at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, enhancing the skills, knowledge and experience she brought to the staff in caring for our residents.” Ms. Schwartzman noted that Holiday Care Center’s unique ability to serve a myriad of senior needs on a one resident at a time basis, is made possible by talented professionals like Ms. Ojo, who value their continued professional growth, and by pursuing higher education, are better prepared for every new on-the-job experience. “In July 2011, I encouraged Cecilia to interview for the ADON position at Holiday Care Center. Cecilia came into her new position with enthusiasm and continued to work part time at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, while at the same time pursued her BSN. She has since completed her BSN, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Kaplan University, got married to her longtime sweetheart, and had a beautiful baby boy! She has not lost a beat and is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in nursing at Walden University, which will position her to greater serve the geriatric population as a nurse practitioner.”

Recommending Ms. Ojo for Nurse of the Year was an honor in itself for Holiday’s Director of Nursing, Jimmie King, who has witnessed Ojo’s growth as a most valued caregiver of the highest degree. “Cecilia’s skill and knowledge as a professional nurse are inspiring. She has extensive experience in both acute and long-term care, and is especially adept in addressing the needs of the post-acute residents here at Holiday Care Center. She is a natural teacher as she interacts with other members of the nursing team, so that both residents and staff benefit from her presence.”

Perhaps Ojo’s biggest supporters are the many patients and residents she has served as a medication nurse, treatment nurse, charge nurse and nursing supervisor. “From the first day I met her, Cecilia’s warm smile and confident presence gave me a sense of security”, says M.H., a resident at Holiday since 2010. “I knew after meeting Cecilia that everything would be fine during my stay at Holiday Care Center.”

As Holiday Care Center’s talented staff continues to build on a record of excellence, the Toms River care center has gained industry-wide recognition, elevating the facility to a five-star CMS rating in Quality Measures, and for achieving advisory standards in seven areas including Rehabilitation, Dietary Services, Activities, Infection Control, Pharmacy, Communication and Physical Plant/Life Safety.

Located at 4 Plaza Drive, Toms River, NJ, Holiday Care Center is one of Ocean County’s most highly regarded nursing and rehabilitative facilities, continually singled out by doctors, residents and families for its diverse and specialized services including 24/7 care for the chronically ill, as well as sub-acute and convalescent care, and a dynamic Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care program.
