Team from facility joins in “Memory Walk” at Point Pleasant on September 26, 2009.
TOMS RIVER, NJ—May 28, 2009—Holiday Care Center will participate in the Alzheimer’s “Memory Walk” Fund Raiser, the largest fund raising event for Alzheimer’s disease education and support programs in the country. The Memory Walk is being held in more than 600 communities nationally, and the regional event will take place in Point Pleasant, NJ on September 26, 2009.
The team from Holiday Care Center will include staff, as well as family and friends of residents. In preparation for the September event, Holiday Care Center has sponsored several additional fund raising efforts, including basket raffles, hot dog, plant and candy sales, and breakfast sandwich sales—all in an effort to raise $5,000.00 prior to the September Memory Walk. Letters requesting corporate and business donations have also been sent out locally to assist in the fund raising process.
“A great deal of effort goes into the event because it is so important to not only raise money—but to raise awareness. Alzheimer’s is a very misunderstood disease and it’s crucial for everyone—especially for family members and caregivers—to learn as much as possible about what’s happening to their loved ones,” explains Diane Dwulet, Administrator at Holiday Care Center. She continues, “The Memory Walk is a pleasant way of bringing people together to show their concern for those with the disease and their support for the work that’s being done.”
Ms. Dwulet also added, “The more we know, the more we can improve the quality of life for those with Alzheimer’s disease. And most importantly, we can focus more on treating and eventually curing this debilitating disease.”
Holiday Care Center in Toms River, NJ provides multiple levels of care to meet the changing needs of residents in the greater Toms River area. Long-term nursing services are available for those elderly people who are unable to continue to live in the community. For those leaving the hospital setting in need of “sub-acute” rehabilitative services, Holiday Care Center specializes in delivering high quality physical, occupational and speech therapies in anticipation of residents going home. “We are also very proud to be recognized as a NJ State Certified Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care unit, providing care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias,” said Dwulet. Our approach to dementia care is centered on specialized training in caring for residents with memory-related needs. Holiday Care Center’s approach to caring for their residents with dementia is based on therapeutic recreational programming where all residents can participate in a variety of programs based on their level of function. Holiday Care Center also offers a free Alzheimer’s support group for caregivers the third Tuesday of every month. This is open to the general public and families are encouraged to attend. You will receive support, guidance and advice in how to cope and deal with the disease process.
